Riverfront Fort Wayne’s Early Bird Nature Walk & Bike Ride

Join Riverfront Fort Wayne this Sunday, April 17 on the historic Wells Street Bridge for the start of the Sunday Nature tours. The event is free and open to the public and suitable for all ages. The event will allow residents to learn about the birds and plants along Fort Wayne’s downtown rivers, with an emphasis on migratory birds, waterfowl, resident birds, riverine flora and invasive species.

The naturalist-led walk will be held from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by a 90-minute leisurely paced bicycle ride led by Fort Wayne Trails. Future nature walks will take place on the first Sunday of the month, May through October. For more information, visitwww.riverfrontfw.org.

Registration is now open for the ERC’s upcoming “Nature Know-how” program. We will meet in the ERC (room G53 on the ground floor of the Science Building on the IPFW campus) for an introduction and then head outside along the IPFW River Walk!

The program runs from 11 am – 1 pm and limited to 30 people. It’s free to attend, but registration is required by either phone (260-481-5725) or email (erc@ipfw.edu). When registering, please tell us how many people in your party will be attending and provide a contact name, phone number and/or email for your group.

Nature Know-how
May 21st 2016

Do you need an iPod to go out into nature? No, but there are certain things you should always have with you if you’re planning to explore off the beaten path. Learn about various ways and what items are essential to keep you safe and well while enjoying the great outdoors to the fullest. Go for a short hike with ERC staff along the IPFW River Walk to learn about native plants (including some you should avoid) and more. Show off your artsy side by making rubbings from leaves of local trees.

Don’t forget to bring your Nature Passport to gain some points for attending our event and get you that much closer to a free Child’s admission to the Fort Wayne Zoo!
