River Turtle Project Off and Running!
It’s a launch!
Radio transmitters beeping, Snapping Turtles #1 and 2 are swimming somewhere off the IPFW campus as the first phase in a long-term study of turtles in Fort Wayne’s rivers. Graduate student Kevin McLane will be tracking turtles along the St. Joe River over the next couple of summers, seeing where they go, how far they travel, how they deal with natural and not so natural habitats. Invasive species monitoring app released
Recently a new app has been released through Ohio State University. The free app is usable on iPhones and iPads. For the environmentally inclined, the app can be used to report sightings of invasive species to a research database. The goal of its developers was to make invasive species monitoring easy for the public.
