Implementation Conference a Success

Save Maumee Grassroots Organization and their colleagues successfully launched the Upper Maumee River Watershed Management Plan at an Implementation Conference at Indiana Tech Saturday, January 24. Stephanie Singer of the Defiance County and Sharon Partridge of the Allen county Soil and Water Conservation Districts introduced the Plan, and several others provided background or guidance on what nexts. The Plan is actually just the beginning. It helps to provide the foundation to finding funding, connecting stakeholders, and getting grassroots action going. You can find out more at the web site for the plan.

Indiana to Receive Funds from New Conservation Program

Conservationists are thrilled to hear that a major grant by the new USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) has been awarded to Indiana and Michigan state organizations. Together with several local groups, the states will collaborate to improve water quality and wildlife habitat in the St. Joseph River watershed. The partnership project will use innovate conservation techniques to reduce excess sediment and nutrients in the river and optimize ground water use. The project, totaling 6.8 million, will offer farmers financial and technical assistance to access these tools to improve infiltration and river habitat quality.

Implementation Conference for the Upper Maumee Watershed Management Plan

Save Maumee Grassroots Organization is hosting a conference to discuss implementation of the Upper Maumee Watershed Management Plan.

January 24, 9AM-3:30PM

Indiana Tech Law School

Their intent is to “focus on the implementation of the “newly” released Upper Maumee Watershed Management Plan (UMWMP). The event will offer an opportunity to network, develop partnerships, and brainstorm a collaborate draft “Plan of Action” to find CREATIVE and  effective ways for your group to think about implementing the best management practices (BMP) outlined within the plan. The BMP’s we will talk about can be utilized and exemplified on any watershed for a measurable reduction in harmful pollutants.”

Registration in requested. The $10 charge will cover lunch and printing costs. See more at their website.
